Neuro Note

Coming Soon: Your digital headache diary.
Understanding pain is the first step toward relief.

Objective

The app functions as a digital headache diary, enabling quick and structured documentation of pain patterns. Its goal is to support patients in self-monitoring and to assist doctors in making informed diagnoses through precise data.

My Role

In NeuroNote, I am responsible for the complete conception of the user experience. I independently conduct user research, market analysis, goal definition, information architecture, and interaction design. Based on the research findings, I developed a structured wireframe that combines clear user flows, a modular information architecture, and purposeful interactions. This serves as the strategic foundation for the digital product development process.

Problem Statement

From personal experience, I know how inaccessible many headache apps can be. They are often overloaded, visually overwhelming, and nearly impossible to use during a migraine attack. Complex processes, lack of accessibility, and poor suitability for everyday use often lead users to abandon them. NeuroNote addresses exactly this issue, closing a significant gap between user needs and the reality of existing apps.

Challenge

Challenge

Migraine attacks impair concentration and make it difficult to use even the simplest applications. NeuroNote must therefore remain clear, low-stimulus, and easy to operate—even in moments of acute pain. Pain entries should be intuitive without overwhelming the user, while still capturing all data relevant for medical evaluation. Simple in everyday use, precise in clinical support.

Affinity Mapping

Affinity Mapping

To identify key weaknesses in existing migraine apps, I analyzed negative user reviews from app stores and consolidated the findings into a structured affinity map. The most common complaints included overloaded user interfaces, lack of accessibility, mandatory registration, data storage opacity, and technical difficulties when making entries during acute attacks. It became especially clear that many apps are hardly usable during migraine episodes themselves. These insights directly informed NeuroNote’s UX goals and help to specifically avoid real usage barriers.

Survey Results

Survey Results

A quantitative survey conducted with affected users confirmed key weaknesses of existing headache diary apps. Many users find the operation confusing and the design visually overwhelming. The majority use such apps on medical recommendation. According to the survey, a low-stimulus design, intuitive workflows, and quick data entry are especially important. These insights directly informed NeuroNote’s UX goals and formed the basis for the concept, structure, and prioritization of features.

Persona

Persona

Based on my survey results and affinity mapping, I created three detailed personas to accurately capture user needs, frustrations, and usage contexts. These personas were then used to prioritize features in the design process.

Information Architecture

Information Architecture

The information architecture of NeuroNote was clearly structured to support quick orientation, intuitive navigation and efficient documentation even when concentration is limited.

User Flow

User Flow

The user flow illustrates a clearly structured user journey from pain entry to evaluation, with a focus on intuitive processes, minimal click depth and the ability to provide medically relevant data digitally or as a PDF.

Wireframe

The mid-fidelity wireframes visualize key screens of the pain entry process with clear hierarchy and intuitive structure as a foundation for the interactive prototype.
